The Power Movement Relaunches Free Self-Defence Classes and Announces New Girls Only Boxing Programme for Tower Hamlets Youth

United Kingdom, 28th Aug 2025 - The Power Movement today announces the relaunch of its highly successful free self-defence classes for children aged 6 to 12 in Bethnal Green, alongside plans for a groundbreaking new initiative: a girls only boxing programme set to launch in September 2025.

The relaunched self-defence project, a vital resource in a borough affected by high rates of youth violence, will continue to provide martial arts training at no cost. Under supervision of highly skilled martial artists, children learn practical techniques to increase their safety and confidence.

The programme was previously coordinated by Marcus Spencer, a former MMA fighter and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt. The project has seen support from martial arts legends like BJJ World Champion Marco Canha and Bill Judd, former Muay Thai World Champion. The project boasts a 90% retention rate.

Building on this success, The Power Movement is proud to partner with the world-renowned Repton Boxing Club to launch a new project specifically designed to support vulnerable girls.

Starting in September 2025, the free girls only boxing programme will prioritise participants with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including autism, creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment for ages 5 to 14. In a significant boost to the project, Repton Boxing Club will provide a local female National Champion to lead and coach the sessions.

“Our self-defence classes have proven there is a desperate need for safe spaces where young people can build confidence and resilience,” said a spokesperson for The Power Movement.
“This new girls only boxing programme allows us to serve another segment of our community that is often overlooked. We’re providing a supportive environment where girls, especially those with SEN, can thrive, get active, and feel empowered.”

The Power Movement’s programmes are funded by donations and rely on volunteer professionals. Each £5,000 raised funds a year of classes, equipment for 30 children, and training for new community coaches.
